Ocelot Windscreens: A long needed solution for canister topped stoves!
The Ocelot Family of Windscreens were designed for people who use canister topped stoves. Canister-topped stoves are lightweight, small and inexpensive: they are the most popular type of backpacking stoves. As marvelous as these devices are, the major weakness is efficient performance in the wind. In the lightest of winds, fuel efficiency can be reduced to the point of not being able to boil water! There have been a few attempts to solve this problem, but these solutions tend to be bulky as well as heavy. Surrounding the stove a full height windscreen can cause your canister to overheat and potentially burst.
The picture below shows a canister topped stove in calm conditions (left) and in a light wind of 2-mph (right). This slight breeze can easily triple your fuel consumption. Wind blocks like rock, trees or even a backpack can help to keep your stove lit, however; they are not as effective as a well-designed windscreen. Our Ocelot windscreens are tested to withstand direct winds of at least 8 mph and in many cases, much higher.
Ocelot Name Change & New Products (2026)
Our first Ocelot windscreen was first developed in 2020. We have evolved and expanded our windscreen sizes to include a broad range of mug sizes. The names have been adjusted to reflect the mug size associated with the windscreen. We have also added a new family of windscreens: the Ocelot EZ series
The Ocelot 3.8 (formerly Mini) was primarily designed for skinnier mugs like the popular TOAKS 95 mm series of mugs: 750, 650 & 550.
The Ocelot 4.2 (formerly STD) was primarily designed to fit larger stoves like the Pocket Rocket Deluxe. An addition design criterion was to fit larger mugs like the Snow Peak Trek 700 titanium mug.
The Ocelot 6.0 was designed for pots and mugs up to 6.0” in diameter. While supporting large mugs, the system is compact and will nest inside a 700 ml mug.
The Ocelot MAX and Ocelot Mini remain unchanged.
The Ocelot EZ is the windscreen that a lot of customers have been requesting: a simple, easy to use windscreen. There is no assembly required as the windscreen is ready to use as is. It is a single piece construction and typically just drops on top of your stove. The wind robustness of the Ocelot EZ is approximately 75% that of the original Ocelots. The windscreen will fit inside an envelope that is 3.5” in diameter and 3.9” tall. Ideal for 700 ml mugs. That being said, the windscreen will accommodate mugs up to 4.2 inches in diameter.

The Oclot MAX is a unique windscreen that was designed around the MSR Pocket Rocket stoves. It was designed for people who use large diameter pots (4.75” / 120 mm and larger).
The Ocelot 6 is a partial windscreen designed for pots up to 6 inches in diameter (152 mm). These windscreens are a partial wrap: they encircle the pot just under a 180-degree wrap. Additionally, the windscreens are partial in height: they protect the burner from the wind. This design requires the users to orient the cooking system so that the windscreen faces the wind. The windscreen is made of stainless steel, weighs about 1 oz (30 g). We currently support the Ocelot 6 with the MSR Pocket Rocket stoves (Deluxe and 2) as well as the Soto WindMaster 4 Flex. The Ocelot 6: Universal attaches to the fuel canister and can be used with most canister topped stoves.
The Ocelot 4.2 is designed for mugs up to 4.2” / 106 mm in diameter and encompasses some of the more popular mugs like the Snow Peak Trek 700. The Ocelot 4.2 is also compatible with a large selection of canister-topped stoves on the market (over 12 unique stoves)
The Ocelot 3.8 – is a windscreen system specifically designed for the TOAKS 95 mm mugs. This includes the 550, 650 & 750 Titanium mugs. All components will nest entirely within your mug. Other mugs will work as well as long as the diameter is close to 95 mm: for smaller mugs, the burner plate would need to be stored externally. This is a unique configuration as currently, there are only a few stoves that will fit inside the windscreen. Fortunately, this includes the popular BRS 3000t, Fire Maple GreenPeak and the TOAKS Titanium backpacking stove though, other stoves may follow.
The Ocelot Mini is designed smaller mugs; 3.8” / 96 mm in diameter and smaller. In particular, it was designed arounf the BRS 3000t and the TOAKS 550 mug and the windscreen as well as a 4 oz fuel canister will nest inside this mug. Again, these are full circle, yet partial height windscreens. Ocelot is designed to protect the burner head from the wind while allowing ample space to keep the isobutane canister cool as provide an ample supply of fresh air to your stove. This kit allows you to nest the windscreen inside your mug.
